NAME; Edward Elric

APPEARANCE; He has long blonde braided hair and gold eyes. Ed is rather short for his age (about 4'4" with his heavy black boots) and generally sports a black leather top and pants, with a black tank top underneath. He also wears a belt fitted with weights and his state pocket watch. He also wears a red hooded coat with a black alchemical symbol on the back, and occasionally white kid gloves to cover up his automail hand.

ABILITIES;
-Alchemy, or the science of manipulating matter
-He’s mastered some form of martial arts.
-Able to think on his feet, and often reputed to be a genius
-Also very familiar with many complex scientific concepts, especially related to chemistry
-Very determined. When he starts something, he makes sure to see it through to the end

Weaknesses:
-Stubborn to a fault, often refuses to admit to being wrong
-Often pushes himself too far
-Has an attitude problem, especially towards authority figures or people he just doesn’t agree with.
-He relies heavily on his alchemy. If his automail arm is disconnected, or broken, he’s much more vulnerable.
-Very impulsive
-Selfish. Tends to put his needs above others in many cases.

PERSONALITY; Though prone to frequent bouts of crankiness and complaining, Ed is generally rather cheerful for a teenager. He's usually pretty easy to read, and deals with people in a honest and blunt manner, which often gets him into trouble. He's sarcastic and has a sharp wit, but always sticks to his principals and treats people fairly. He values his friends and family very much, although sometimes it's hard to tell what he's thinking.

HISTORY; He was born in the country of Amestris in Risembool. He had a normal childhood except for the absence of his father, and learned how to perform alchemy at a fairly young age. Ed was very close to his mother, and when she died both he and his brother were devastated. Ignoring the laws against human transmutation, Ed perfected his alchemy under Izumi Curtis and attempted to bring Trisha Elric back to life. The transmutation failed; Al lost his body, and Ed lost a leg and an arm, the latter which he used as an equivalent exchange to bind his brother’s soul to a suit of armor. After getting automail to replace his lost limbs, Ed set out to become a state alchemist in the hopes of conducting research to return him and his brother to normal. He joined the military at the age of twelve, and spent the following three years trying to find information on the philosopher’s stone, which according to legend had the ability to bypass the laws of alchemy.


SAMPLE
The moon hung in the sky like a great, shining white pearl, set into the dark velvety sky and only slightly obscured by wispy clouds. It was a peaceful scene, something it seemed Edward Elric rarely had the chance to appreciate, ever since he’d joined the military. He couldn’t help but gaze up at it with a mixture of wistful longing and something akin to resentment. He’d give anything to be up there, far away from all his worries and responsibilities…

But then the feeling was gone, leaving behind only emptiness. He closed his eyes, and then sighed, feeling all his exhaustion drain out of him to be replaced with adrenaline and small but nevertheless present fear. What was he thinking? He had a job to do, and he couldn’t afford to be caught off guard.

The only noise he could hear was the chirping of crickets, which Ed purposely ignored in favour of quieter sounds that would give away the chimera’s position. His efforts were rewarded with the sound of harsh breathing and the crunch of heavy paws on brittle leaves. It was close, though the pitch-black of the forest made it impossible to tell exactly how far away the animal was.

Ed shifted into a defensive posture, hands poised to clap and mind racing for possible transmutations to use in the event of an attack. But Ed was used to situations like this, and couldn’t stifle an anticipative grin. After this he could go hunt Al down and they could consider his mission completed.

The chimera snarled, leaping down from the branch above him with talons poised for his neck. Ed clapped his hands together quickly, and a brilliant flash of blue light lit up the darkened wood…

Journal Writing Sample: Where the heck is Al? For that matter, where the heck am I? Dammit, if this is another of Havoc’s practical jokes I’ll…

…Wait, why is it so dark, and why is the moon out? I only checked my watch a minute ago, it should still be mid-afternoon! I don’t have a good feeling about this…
